Okay, cherished readers, this is a reminder to everyone, including myself, that if you don’t look after yourself, then neither will anyone else. Unless you are extremely fortunate to have loved ones around you who will physically STOP you from entering into the land of chaos where you are juggling 100 things at the same time AND beating yourself up when you drop something here and there.
When we stop looking after our own welfare, we are essentially cheating ourselves from having a good life.
Yes, we all have busy lives and we get ahead of ourselves and get so busy that we stop ignoring ourselves and that inner voice of reason that prods us and nudges us – when we don’t rest when we are overworked, or when we stop drinking our daily water and replace it with teas and juices; when we indulge in all those yummy biscuits and Green & Blacks chocolate when we could easily be satisfied from a balanced meal.
Needs must come before desires! Don’t be Veruca Salt.
And if your upset because no-one realizes how tired and exhausted you are, yet you keep on going like the slaves of Pharoah, remember:
Respect begets respect.
– dont expect a fanfare for being a needy martyr. Instead, expect everyone to look at you as though you are a woman who has lost her marbles, and for them to keep away from you as though you are carrying the plague, because of your sharp tongue and irrational logic that you will inflicting upon them.
Finally – if you have too much to do, DO LESS.
Do less so that you have more time for your health, your husband and your kids. Don’t just think about all your priorities, GIVE them priority.
I am reminded of the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, Allah bless him and give him peace: “The likeness of a righteous companion is that of the seller of musk. Either he will give you a gift, or you will buy something from him, or you will smell a pleasant fragrance from him. And the likeness of an evil companion is that of the man who works the bellows, Wither he will burn your garment or you will smell an unpleasant odour from him”.
Be like a musk seller instead of stinking the place out with your mislaid priorities.
This Saturday we have the first Tea & Chat of the year – oops! Do come along, it will be nice to sit and chat.
