Do you wonder about how much self-care you ‘should’ be doing? Do you find that you work yourself to a depleted state and becoming burnt out? Do you wonder about how much self-care you ‘should’ be doing?
‘How much self-care should I do?’ was a question that was recently asked in the Cherished Seasons course. This article explains how much self-care to do and how to ensure that you don’t get to the burnt-out stage.
When you find yourself feeling depleted, let your body be your guide. When you find your shoulders hurting, your eyes getting tired, your clarity reduced, know that it is a sign that you need to take time out. This could be different on different days depending on the time of day, what sort of things you are doing that day – some things will tire you out more – especially when you are manifesting your leadership and justice traits! Also, be aware of your cycle and its corresponding energy levels. During the autumn and winter of your cycle, you may need more relaxing self-care, and not so much fun and feel-good things.
One of the important things about self-care is to do it before you get to the depleted, burnout stage. Here are 4 steps towards working are your optimum energy levels:
- Time yourself – When you set yourself a task, set a timer – and see how long it takes for you to do the task effectively before getting tired.
- Tired – The moment you get tired, check the timer. Make a mental note to do ten minutes less next time before taking a break – this way you will be taking out time for yourself before getting depleted!
- Take a break – replenish yourself with some tea, a 30-minute break, a walk around your garden, etc.
- Timed Tasks – Once you have taken your break, you can return back to the task for the time you know you can work at your optimum best.
